Homework and Reading

Parental interest and encouragement is essential for a child’s success. We expect children to take books home to read to parents, as well as books from our extensive library for parents to read to them. We hope that in promoting daily sessions of reading for pleasure at home as well as in school, we can jointly foster a life-long enjoyment of the printed word.

The children will bring home a reading diary showing what targets have been set for your child and how well they are doing. Ideally we like the children to read at home 4 times a week. There are rewards for regular reading at home. Individually tailored targets are also set in other subjects. Maths, spelling and other homework is also sent home. The type and amount depends on the age and stage of development of the child.

What our parents say:

"The children develop a strong bond with their teachers, and there is good evidence of the vision of the headteacher." "The opportunities provided for the children are excellent." "The headteacher goes the extra mile to make sure that parents feel involved, supported and satisfied with their children's experience of school." "We are delighted with the excellent standard of teaching." "Abigail really enjoys going to school and has made really good progress."
